Today Dane and I said some hard goodbyes to the people we love. I didn't think it would be so hard, but facing my mom and dad and my sister lisa along with my close friends Chad made me cry. I was overwhelmed thinking how many people I have in my life that care about me and want to see me do well. As I rode away toward the border I cried alot. I didnt expect that. Then I called Quinn like a do everyday at 4pm and we sang songs to eachother. After all it is Funny Friday. It's a tradition that we have. Every Friday we freestyle on the phone and make up impromptu songs and we try to out dual each other. Quinn always wins. That's pretty much the only rule we have. Even the time I sang for like 5 minutes she said she still won. Today she sung me the song she made up about the cow and the pig and she played the piano! She was awesome. She has her music recital tonight so she was excited about that. I told her that I missed her and that I got to talk on the radio today about my trip and she cheered for me. She always cheers for me. She's amazing. I feel so lucky that I am able to do this.
We rode across the border just fine. We had to wait about 45 minutes to buy our tourist cards so that was lame. Then we rode a few miles went up a big hill then started on the 1 towards Rosarito. We came to the first toll booth and the guy w the machine gun told us to turn around cuz for the next 10 miles we couldnt ride our bikes on the 1 cuz it was a toll road. Dane and I bein the brilliant dudes we are tried to bribe the security guard. That made him a bit perturbed. At this point it was about an hour til dark so we decided to hitch hike the 10 miles. I mean why not. Were in Mexico. Everybody hitch hikes in Mexico especially when their wearing spandex. Some guy with a truck picked us up a few minutes later. He owned a coffee place in Ensenada and he drives to San Diego once week to get his beans. He said the beans were from Costa Rica and that they were the greatest beans ever in the history of coffee beans. No really-the greatest ever. Awesome I thought. A guy from Mexico drives to the United States to pick up coffee beans from Costa Rica and on the way home he picks up 2 guys riding their bikes around the world. Somehow it didn't make any sense and it was hilarious listening to Dane tell him in Spanglish that Argentina was only 1/3 of the way of our journey. So the guy drove us the 10 or so miles we couldnt ride on the freeway. We got out and rode and got some quesadillas at a road side place then went to a 7-11 and this kid told us there was a place to camp across the street. So we got our gear out like little kids and set everything up and we even talked on our walkie talkies. I told Dane that it should be illegal for 2 guys to have his much fun in one day. Today was a big fat GOOD TIME.
